It’s now time to sign up for your November Teacher Trainings!

Each November and April, you have the ability to choose your own training sessions offered by HSOLC that align with your interests and goals.  You will need to select at least one training session but may select more.  Due to the uniqueness of 2020, you have the ability to choose from trainings offered on three different days.

This year we are offering the following sessions:

Wed, Nov 18th

Understanding & Recognizing White Privilege,  Al McGillivray
8:30-11:30am
Conversation-style training that aims to build understanding of basic terms around race and racism, deepen awareness of one’s own story and how it shape’s one’s attitudes toward race, and examine whiteness and one’s own white privileges. Small group conversations integrated through the training.
Limit of 15 participants. Session will not be recorded.

Virtual Circle Time with Children and Families in Head Start, Tarra Kuroda & Maria Curtis
9:00-10:30am
Tarra Kuroda and Maria Curtis will share their experiences and expertise conducting virtual circles and providing educational services to children and families in Part Day Head Start and Early Head Start.
No participant limit.  Session will be recorded.

Demystifying Needs Identified / To-Do ListVidya Nichols
10:00-11:00am
Demystifying Needs Identified and Actions in Child Plus Mobile” This is a “how-to” workshop on best practices in documenting Needs Identified and their corresponding Actions. Learn how to create Actions that are meaningful and helpful so that you can showcase all your great work and make your To-do-List useful!

Tips for Engaging Virtual Circles, Ashlee VanHout & Trixy Place
10:30-11:30am
We will go over the planning and preparation process, give ideas for activities, tips on how to engage children and how to collect documentation for teaching strategies. We will also show some recorded region 8 circles.
No participant limit.  Session will be recorded.

Promoting Positive Parent-Child Interactions (PCI) in Virtual Visits, Lisa Kinser-Wehr
11:30am-1:30pm
Under the stress of COVID quarantine, positive interactions between parents and their children often diminish. In virtual visits, how can we promote the positive parent-child interactions which foster child development and nourish strong bonds for families who are isolated together in stressful times? Let’s have an interactive conversation and explore strategies for promoting positive PCI in video or phone calls.

CATCH in the Virtual World, Lorraine Navarro, Andi Ruch & Jessica Sabadin
11:30am – 12:30pm
See some of your colleagues and how they incorporate CATCH into their virtual visits and circle times. We will discuss CATCH activities that can be done in HS and EHS.

Mom-Net Info Session, Heidi Johnson
1:00-2:00pm
Parenting preschoolers can be tough! In this info-session, we will learn about Mom-Net and how it can help parents increase their mood and enjoy parenting more, describe the screening and referral process, and find out what it looks like to be a Mom-Net participant!
No participant limit.  A repeat session is offered on the 25th.

Staff Café, Angela Fendley
9:00-11:00am
Heard the buzz about Parent Café? This is your opportunity to find out what it’s all about! Learn about the Protective Factors, make new connections with your co-workers, and deepen your conversation and listening skills.
Limit of 20 participants.  This session will not be recorded. A repeat session is offered on the 25th.
