Policy Council meets the second Tuesday of every month from 6-9pm at the Whiteaker Head Start Center. Policy Council is made up of currently enrolled parents or community members wanting to stay involved or be involved with early childhood education/Head Start. These positions are elected annually. The term limit is five years.

Twenty people were in attendance at the February meeting. Jeanne Campos from Community Health Centers spoke to the Council about positions on the Community Health Center Board. This group meets the third Tuesday of the month from 5:15-7pm. Dinner and $25 stipend is given. If you know of someone who could be an asset to this Board the application is available online.

The web designer asked for parent feedback and made changes instantly, like the school calendar being available under the “For Parents” tab. Parents like the new design and hope to have a PC section.

The State Reps shared their experiences visiting Rep. Lively, Rep. Nathanson and Senator Prozanski. They shared their Head Start stories and advocated for Head Start funding increases. Visiting the Capitol is a great family outing; Saturday March 16 is Cherry Blossom Day from 10-2:00.

The ERSEA (eligibility, recruitment, selection, enrollment, attendance) Committee asks parents to share their personal stories of what they, as parents, get to do while their child is attending Head Start. This is an attendance push to emphasis the other benefits parents experience when their child attends class.

Business included elections for community membership and the Vice-Chair position. The Vice-chair sits on the Head Start Board of Directors as the liaison for both groups.
