SUMMARY:Creating Early Childhood Environments for Nature-based Learning
DESCRIPTION:Register Here\nCreating Early Childhood Environments for Nature-based Learning\, by Rachel A. Larimore\n\n\n\n\n\nWed\, May 19\, 2021 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM PDT \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNature-based learning is growing in popularity\, particularly in the time of COVID. Yet\, many find themselves looking for strategies to integrate nature into the preschool curriculum in meaningful and intentional ways. One area of program development that is foundational for children’s play and teacher-child interactions is the physical environment. Statements like “bring nature inside” or “go outside” oversimplify things and don’t address the pedagogy around nature-based education. Further\, these phrases don’t address HOW to bring nature in or take advantage of nature outside. \nThis webinar\, presented by author and nature-based learning expert Rachel Larimore\, will help early childhood administrators identify the principles fundamental to a nature-based approach. Then\, using a continuum of nature-based early childhood education as the overarching framework\, Rachel will address the unique considerations for designing a nature-based classroom. We’ll discuss the spaces inside\, outside\, and beyond the fence. Additionally\, we’ll discuss the other supporting spaces that help make for successful nature-based learning. \nIn this session we’ll discuss the theory and specific strategies related to: \n\nPreparing the indoor classroom\nShifting the outdoor classroom to a more natural play area\nUtilizing spaces beyond the fence of the play area\nConsiderations for supporting spaces (e.g.\, extra gear storage)\nAdhering to licensing regulations while implementing a nature-based approach\n\nObjectives:\nParticipants will be able to… \n\nDescribe the core principles of a nature-based early childhood approach\nList at least two important components of the indoor environment for nature-based learning\nDescribe at least two important components of the outdoor environment for nature-based learning\n\nAll sessions are 1.5 hours long\, and include a brief announcement from our sponsor. \n11:oo AM – 12:30 PM \nTo ensure you receive confirmation and reminder emails\, add customercare@gotowebinar.com to your contacts list. SUMMARY:More Than Just a Buzzword: Embedding “Equity-Mindedness” for Concrete Change
DESCRIPTION:Register Here\nMore Than Just a Buzzword: Embedding “Equity-Mindedness” for Concrete Change\nResearch has demonstrated that school policy\, teacher pedagogies\, and educational leadership are directly impacted by broader societal issues. Over a year since its emergence\, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to highlight ongoing inequities through its disproportionate impact on communities of color. This has coincided with the rise in frequency of racial violence\, most recently targeting Black and Asian communities within the United States. \nPut plainly\, our communities are enduring multiple crises. It is therefore critical that educational leaders at every level are equipped to address the ways these crises manifest (and have manifested) within K-12 educational settings\, in order to define and create a “new normal” rooted in equity-mindedness. This moment calls all educators to reconstruct learning to meet children where they are\, and ultimately guide them towards a brighter\, equitable future. \nIn this edLeader Panel\, attendees will: \n\nLearn what equity-mindedness means as a way of thinking\, working\, and living\nConcretize recurring conversations around diversity\, equity\, and inclusion that impact our youth\nReflect on “norms” within our schools that are inequitable by design\nDevise ways to create more equitable norms and strategies moving forward\n\nThis edLeader Panel will be of interest to teachers\, librarians\, and school and district leaders of the kindergarten through middle school levels. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.
