SUMMARY:Play and Assessment? YES! Reciprocal Partners in the Early Childhood Classroom Dance
DESCRIPTION:Register Here\nPlay and Assessment? YES! Reciprocal Partners in the Early Childhood Classroom Dance\nAt times\, assessment and play have been pitted against each other\, considered to be at opposite ends of the “developmentally appropriate” continuum. In reality\, both are not only essential\, but they work together! Play informs authentic\, observation-based assessment and assessment informs facilitation. In this session\, we will examine both play and assessment and the power that comes when early educators leverage the power of both in creating learning environments for young children. \nJoin this eye-opening webinar presented by early care and education expert\, Michelle Salcedo to learn how you and your staff can: \n\nRelate the goals of play to classroom practices.\nIdentify opportunities to assess children’s learning and development in their play.\nCreate and sustain play-based environments and experiences based on assessment.

SUMMARY:Pushing Past Bias and Challenging Classroom Behaviors: Changing Children’s Behavior Starts With Changing Ourselves
DESCRIPTION:Pushing Past Bias and Challenging Classroom Behaviors: Changing Children’s Behavior Starts With Changing Ourselves\, by Dr. Angela Searcy\nWhen children exhibit behaviors that are not compliant\, early educators often label them “challenging.” But are they really? Teachers and administrators often jump to conclusions about the child or their family and community. However\, behavior is complex so there is seldom one reason children don’t or cannot comply with our expectations. Research shows order to gain a meaningful understanding of children’s behavior there must be a meaningful understanding of adult bias and the context in which these behaviors occurs. This webinar will help you look beyond the child to the implicit bias\, contextual elements\, interactions\, and classroom variables that might contribute to labeling behavior as challenging. \nJoin this paradigm-shifting webinar presented by author Dr. Angela Searcy to: \n\nexamine examples of implicit bias\nexplore contextual elements\, classroom variables\, and potential bias within your programs and your practice.\nlearn about tools to help you identify implicit bias\n\nAll sessions are 1.5 hours long\, and include a brief announcement from our sponsor. \n11:oo AM – 12:30 PM \nTo ensure you receive confirmation and reminder emails\, add customercare@gotowebinar.com to your contacts list. SUMMARY:Reclaiming the Narrative for Equity\, Inclusion\, & Belonging in Schools
DESCRIPTION:Reclaiming the Narrative for Equity\, Inclusion\, & Belonging in Schools\nWed\, November 10\, 2021  11:00 AM – 12:15 PM PST \nRegister Here \nOver the past two decades\, many school districts across the United States have engaged in some form of ‘equity work’ in an effort to change persistent racialized patterns in student experience and achievement. Communities have engaged in a wide range of efforts to increase opportunity and expand educational excellence and equity. While the impacts of these efforts vary\, much has been learned about (and brain/neuroscience supports) the benefits of creating student centered and culturally sustaining approaches to teaching and learning. \nYet\, today diversity\, equity\, and inclusion work is under increased scrutiny and controversy in many school districts. While framed as a debate about “critical race theory”\, the programs and initiatives under attack more often include research-based efforts intended to increase opportunity and fairness in our schools\, classrooms\, and curriculum. \nHow might we use this moment of contention to inspire\, engage\, and activate our communities to protect educational approaches that ensure every young person has access to the resources\, opportunities\, and relationships they need to learn\, develop\, and thrive? \nLaShawn Routé Chatmon\, Kathleen Osta\, and Stephen Chang of the National Equity Project will host this interactive webinar exploring how we can effectively communicate about and take collective leadership for the schools and educational environments that our young people are demanding and deserve. Join other committed educators\, students\, parents\, advocates\, and community members to learn\, strategize\, dream\, and take action to create equitable and just schools in which every young person is seen\, valued\, cared for and thrives. \n  \nInteractive Webinar Overview & Accessibility\nThis webinar will be delivered in a live\, 75 minute interactive learning session conducted online in Zoom. The session will be recorded and live transcription and close captions will be enabled. \nThis is intended to be an inspiring\, joyful\, and inclusive learning space – abusive\, hurtful or hateful language will result in removal from the webinar. \n  \nRegistration\nYou will receive a password-protected Zoom link the day of the event via email. Be sure to check your spam and allow email from Eventbrite to ensure receipt. \nNote: Registration closes Tuesday\, November 9 at 2pm Pacific.
