SUMMARY:Teaching Racial-Cultural Empathy and Challenging Discrimination in Early Childhood
DESCRIPTION:Teaching Racial-Cultural Empathy and Challenging Discrimination in Early Childhood\nWed\, Dec 8\, 2021 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM PST \nRegister Here \n\n\nSynopsis: \nChildren as young as preschool age show racial preferences and prejudice. Early childhood educators have the unique opportunity to cultivate racial-cultural empathy and challenge discrimination before and during this prime age. We highly recommend attendees watch our previous webinar\, “Healing from Racial and Cultural Discrimination\,” which focuses on the impact of trauma from racial-cultural discrimination during early childhood\, and relational strategies to promote healing. In this webinar we will delve deeper into teaching racial-cultural empathy and inclusive practices for early childhood programs.\n\nObjectives: \n– Understand the importance of promoting racial-cultural empathy and challenging discrimination during early childhood to promote racial and cultural awareness among young children. \n– Become familiar with the components of teaching racial-cultural empathy in early childhood education programs\, including knowledge of inter-group differences\, awareness of biases\, and social-emotional skills to overcome prejudice and practice solidarity. \n– Identify program-wide inclusive policies and family engagement practices that challenge discrimination and propel the development of racial-cultural empathy.

SUMMARY:Intentional Preschool Environments Set the Stage for Young Children
DESCRIPTION:Intentional Preschool Environments Set the Stage for Young Children\nJanuary 5\, 2022 11:00 AM \nRegister Here \n\nEvery early childhood program’s physical environment\, both indoor and outdoor\, sets the stage for learning and engagement. The physical environment sends strong messages to children and adults about what is valued\, who is valued\, and what learning can occur within the spaces. It is up to family child care providers\, directors\, and teachers to carefully design their environments with absolute intention. \nMaking modifications to your environment to reflect and support the children you currently serve can take place any time of year. In fact\, observing the design in action can reveal opportunities for improvement. \nJoin this reflective webinar presented by early care and education expert\, Laura Delgado to learn to design your space in a way that offers children the opportunity to feel comfortable owning the space. This session will provide practical ideas and processes for intentional design of indoor and outdoor environments for children birth through 5 years old. You will learn: \n\nPlanning insights to enable you to set up your environment with intention.\nHow to set the stage for learning\, and use the environment as the 3rd teacher.\nHow to use different types of materials\, and collect age-appropriate materials including commercial\, natural and repurposed.\n\nAll sessions are 1.5 hours long\, and include a brief announcement from our sponsor. \n11:oo AM – 12:30 PM \nTo ensure you receive confirmation and reminder emails\, add customercare@gotowebinar.com to your contacts list. SUMMARY:Mitigating the Impact of Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences: The Power of Relationships
DESCRIPTION:Mitigating the Impact of Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences: The Power of Relationships \nIn classrooms across the country\, teachers face a host of new challenges stemming from the stressful and even traumatic circumstances experienced by so many children and their families throughout the pandemic. Teachers play a critical role in children’s ability to heal from traumatic experiences—but often have limited guidance on what to look for or how to help. This webinar will support teachers in building trauma-sensitive classrooms by exploring: \n\nthe basics of trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and their impact on educators and on classroom communities\,\nthe impact of stress-related challenges that the past year has had on so many children and families\,\nhow to recognize and begin to address challenging or dysregulated classroom behaviors that stem from exposure to trauma and ACEs\, and\nstrategies for building relationships with children that act as a buffer against the negative impacts of trauma.

SUMMARY:Leadership/Supervision Series
DESCRIPTION:Leadership/Supervision Series\n“I’ve taken a lot of different leadership classes over the past 20 years and this is definitely at the top of the list!”\n                                                       – An EAP employee \nA seven part series teaching supervisory and leadership skills to integrate behaviors that build engagement\, help reduce defensive responses when holding staff accountable\, and build trust among work groups. The goal of this series is to help leaders and supervisors prevent employee relations problems and support resolution of job performance issues. This series will be offered in the Spring and Fall of 2022 and is designed for supervisors or managers\, but anyone interested in the topic is welcome. See below for class descriptions.  To register visit our REGISTRATION CALENDAR.  Registration opens one month prior to first training date of series. \nSPRING SERIES: 8:30am to 10:00am by Zoom invite. \nFALL SERIES: 10:30am to 12:00pm By Zoom invite. \n\n\n\n\n\nSPRING \nFALL\n\n\nSESSION #1\nPeople Smart Management\n3.3.22\n9.15.22\n\n\nSESSION #2\nWhat Kind of Leader are You?\n3.10.22\n9.22.22\n\n\nSESSION #3\nPositive Communication to Build an Engaged Team\n3.17.22\n9.29..22\n\n\nSESSION #4\nFinding Paths through Conflict\n3.24.22\n10.6.22\n\n\nSESSION #5\nCoaching and Correcting Job Performance\n3.31.22\n10.13.22\n\n\nSESSION #6:\nGenerations in the Workplace\n4.7.22\n10.20.22\n\n\nSESSION #7:\nLeadership in Times of Organizational Change and Transition\n4.14.22\n10.27.22\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSession #1 People Smart Management\nCovers fundamental skills to give positive and negative feedback to resolve job performance\, problem behavior\, and conflict while minimizing anger and defensiveness: \n\nIngredients of Constructive Feedback: the “Breakfast of Champions”\nConsider critical variables prior to intervention\nThe Ladder of Inference: Avoiding conclusions that escalate conflict\n\nSession #2: What Kind of Leader Are You?\nAre leaders born or made? Join us as we explore the wide range of leadership styles and examine the strengths and challenges of various approaches. Participants will have an opportunity to learn more about their own leadership styles and gain insights into how to develop skills and techniques to enhance their natural abilities. \nSession #3: Positive Communication to Build an Engaged Team\nNo matter where you find yourself in life you must be able to communicate effectively in order to be successful. Everything that happens in the workplace is affected by good or bad communication. This workshop will provide an opportunity to acquire and refine those communication skills that are the keys to any successful leader’s performance. \nBuilding an effective and engaged team involves understanding how to bring individual and organizational needs together in a way that leads to success for all parties. Effective leaders must help to motivate and inspire creativity in others\, facilitate a process that will clarify common goals for the team\, and involve the team in developing an effective action plan to achieve these goals. This workshop will provide specific strategies for enhancing team effectiveness: \n\nCreate a culture that inquires about situational realities in the workplace\n\nAsk strategic questions that strengthen relationships by clarifying facts and avoiding accusations: Open ended and probing questions\nUsing perception checks to open discussion and reduce anger\n\n\n\nSession #4: Finding Paths through Conflict\nLeaders know that conflict is inevitable\, but many lack the skills necessary to utilize conflicts to strengthen the team rather than derail it. This workshop will provide a framework for understanding how conflict develops\, ways in which a supervisor can intervene to resolve issues\, and strategies to empower employees to address potential conflicts as they arise. Covers the decision model to select a conflict management strategy while holding people accountable: \n\nHandling Conflict with Style: Different conflicts require different conflict strategies\nUniversal Job Expectations: Recognizing the importance of technical and interpersonal skills\n\nSession #5: Coaching and Correcting Job Performance\nSupervisors have many opportunities to coach their workers to be more skillful. Opportunities arise when an employee needs to learn and practice better job skills or better interpersonal skills and when a worker needs to stop certain actions as well (managing anger\, for example). This workshop will focus on helping supervisors define what specific behaviors need to be changed\, teach staff how to increase or stop these behaviors\, set time tables\, and evaluate progress. Specific strategies to encourage and motivate employees will also be discussed. \nIn addition\, we will outline the resources at Cascade Behavioral Health & EAP that are available to assist supervisors in their roles\, including supervisory coaching\, mandatory employee referrals\, and training opportunities. Helping employees to be more skillful is a great gift to individual workers and to the entire workplace! \nSession #6: Generations in the Workplace\nThe 75 million baby boomers who make up 45 percent of the workplace are now starting to retire. Our workplace will change! We may understand and be accustomed to the beliefs and values of the baby boomers\, but we now need to be able to understand the characteristics of successive generations. The difference in values and beliefs\, views on authority\, career goals\, and work-life balance can be confusing and we may unintentionally harbor judgments and stereotypes. You will gain an overview of the four generations present in the workplace today and strategies for motivating and working with each one. \nSession #7: Leadership in Times of Organizational Change and Transition\nContemporary leaders face challenges that were unimaginable even a few short years ago. The future promises even greater changes and challenges within the workplace and in the world at large. Leaders are in the unique position to find opportunities amidst changes and help others successfully navigate them. This workshop will focus on identifying these future challenges and utilizing tools such as creativity\, networking\, and empowerment necessary for success in this diverse and ever-changing environment. We will also address “emotional intelligence” in the workplace to improve effectiveness and explore ways to help organizations and individuals build resilience.
