DESCRIPTION:The next meeting of the Early Math Learning Group will be on January 24th from 9:30-11:00 in the Whiteaker Cafeteria.  If you are interested\, please contact facilitator Kerry Holmes. \nAt our 12/20/19 meeting we reviewed the math concepts of Numbers and Operations.  Teachers shared some things that they had tried in their classrooms and we looked at a video clip of two classrooms who used the book “Mouse Count” by Ellen Stoll Walsh to practice numbers and operations skills along with story re-telling.  To watch the video\, here is the link:  https://earlymath.erikson.edu/mouse-collections-preschool-storytime-game/\n\nSome folks were interested in the Dot Card Transition Activity from the October teacher meeting and the link to that article and video is here: https://earlymath.erikson.edu/preschool-number-sense-routine-perfect-for-transitions/\n\nWe also explored the important concept of “sets”.  If you missed the meeting and are interested in learning more\, there is a free professional learning module on Sets in the Erikson Institute’s Early Math Collaborative website: https://earlymath.erikson.edu/modules/sets/?fwp_formats=video&fwp_found=sets\n\nAs a group we looked at different activities for exploring sets and the developmental progression of skills in young children (see attached handout)\n\nOur next meeting is January 24th from 9:30-11:00 in the Whiteaker Cafeteria.  Please try out a matching or sorting activity with your classroom before the meeting so you can share out how it went.  Our next topic will be Geometry and Spatial Sense.  Please review pages 12-20 (or 748-756 of 5th ed) of the Creative Curriculum vol 4 Mathematics.

SUMMARY:October Teacher Training\, PM Session
DESCRIPTION:October 18th is our Teacher Meeting day in the Whiteaker gym.  The AM session is from 8:30-11:30 for Regions 3\, 4\, 6\, 8\, & 9.  The PM session is from 12:30-3:30 for Regions 1\, 2\, 5\, & 7.  We are covering several topics this month including maternal depression\, support for immigrant families\, new policies and program goals\, and early childhood math skills.\n\n\nThe Wellness Team meets between the AM and PM sessions in Whiteaker room 7 and all staff are welcome.  The Wellness team meetings are brown bag since they fall over the lunch break.  Meetings can include a wellness activity\, information sharing\, and/or wellness planning for the year.  Please contact Jean Sperry if you have questions.\n\n\nDuring the teacher meeting staff consultation is also available for caseload debriefing with Sacia Stiles de Andrade from Options Counseling in room 4A.  Not sure what you might use staff consultation for?  Here are some examples:\nTalking with a counselor about how to self-regulate during challenging situations with children and families\,\ndebriefing challenges of working with children or families who have complex needs\,\nor perhaps you’re simply feeling overwhelmed or anxious about work and you want to talk about how to manage those feelings so you can be your best self for the children and families you work with.\n\nThere are several 30 min. time slots available for the October meeting.   If you would like to sign up for a time slot for yourself or for you and your teaching partner together\, please email me those requests separately.\n\n\n\n\n\n10:30-11:00\navailable\n\n\n11:00-11:30\navailable\n\n\n11:30-12:00\navailable\n\n\n12:00-12:30\nLunch break\n\n\n12:30-1:00\nBooked\n\n\n1:00-1:30\navailable\n\n\n1:30-2:00\navailable\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you everyone and I look forward to seeing you all!
