SUMMARY:Planned Language Approach: Focus on Phonological Awareness
DESCRIPTION:Register Online Now!\nJoin the series to learn strategies for implementing the Planned Language Approach’s (PLA) Big 5 for ALL. The PLA is a comprehensive\, systemic\, research-based way for Head Start and Early Head Start programs to ensure optimal language and literacy services for children who speak English and for children who are dual language learners (DLLs). Children need high-quality experiences in each of the Big 5: Background Knowledge; Oral Language and Vocabulary; Book Knowledge and Print Concepts; Alphabet Knowledge and Early Writing; and Phonological Awareness. \nThis final webinar in the five-part series focuses on phonological awareness. It is children’s ability to focus on and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words. Children develop phonological awareness as they learn to recognize that language can be broken into words\, syllables\, and smaller sounds. Learn how to promote phonological awareness for all children in your programs. \nTopics for the webinar include: \n\nResearch about phonological awareness\nThe development trajectory for these skills in children ages birth to 5\nStrategies to support phonological awareness for children who are DLLs\nConnections between phonological awareness\, PLA\, coordinated approaches\, and the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework\n\nTarget Audience \n\nHead Start\, Early Head Start\, Migrant and Seasonal Head Start\, and child care program leaders and education staff\nCenter-based\, family child care\, public pre-K\, and home visiting programs\nEarly childhood specialists\nRegional T/TA staff\n\n  \nHow to Register\nSelect the link to register for the webinar:\nhttps://event.on24.com/wcc/r/1884467/D997513EA553FAC30DFE5E1D88716189

SUMMARY:Building Resilience through a Trauma-informed Preschool Classroom
DESCRIPTION:Building Resilience through a Trauma-informed Preschool Classroom\nwith Kari Hagemeyer & Corrinne Kaleese\nChildhood trauma is prevalent in our community\, with research suggesting that more than 60% of Oregon’s children experience traumatic childhood events. What is trauma\, how does it affect the brain\, and how can we build resilience in children through trauma-informed teaching practices? SUMMARY:February Teacher Training
DESCRIPTION:Invitation extended to admin\, food service\, and bus drivers:\n  \n\nWe are very excited about the upcoming teacher meeting on Friday February 15th and would like to extend the invitation to admin\, food service\, and bus drivers to join us.  As most of you are aware\, our agency has been working hard to look at and respond in healthier ways to the trauma that we are exposed to via our work and lived experiences.  In addition to our agency work related to the Trauma Stewardship book\, we now have an opportunity to launch a Trauma Informed Care Project and we need YOU.\n\nIn the spirit of true transparency I have to tell you up front that this is going to involve a survey.  Now wait! Before you roll your eyes or push close\, please read on. It would be impossible to foster increased staff wellness or improve our services to families without your voice and important input. We wanted to provide paid time that does not take you away from other important work to gather this feedback. With that in mind\, we will be spending a significant amount of time on the survey and discussion groups at the upcoming teacher meeting.\n\n\nThis will be your chance to help steer the ship that is Head Start of Lane County and guide our trauma sensitivity work moving forward. At the teacher meeting we will be asking if staff have interest in being part of the ongoing efforts.   It is our goal to be sure you feel safe and have what you need to be honest and truly anonymous when taking the survey.  Elaine Walters\, Founder and Director of the Trauma Healing Project\, will be our guest at the meeting and will be assisting us in the launch of this project.\n\n\nThe February teacher meeting is scheduled for Friday Feb 15 in the Whiteaker Gym.  The agenda includes the following:\n\n\nAnnouncements\n\n\nEd Feil will be providing additional information on HSOLC participation in MomNet.\n\n\nTrauma Informed Care (T.I.C.) survey and discussion groups\n\n\n\nThere are two sessions available:\n\n-AM Session is from 8:30-11:30 (Non teaching staff who are joining the Trauma Informed part should arrive at 9:30am)  Regions 1\, 2\, 4\, & 5 are scheduled for the morning\n\n-PM Session is from 12:30-3:30 (non teaching staff who are joining the Trauma Informed part should arrive at 1:30)  Regions 3\, 6\, & 7 are scheduled for the afternoon. \n\nWe look forward to seeing you!\n\n\nAlso– consider furthering these efforts by joining the Wellness Team!  The Wellness Team meets between the two sessions\, 11:30-12:30.
