SUMMARY:Magic Moments: Active Problem Solving with Young Children
DESCRIPTION:Magic Moments: Active Problem Solving with Young Children\nFebruary 8\, 2023 from 11:00am – 12:30pm \nRegister Here \nEvery problem\, large or small\, is an opportunity for young children to learn and grow. From spilled glue to a conflict in the block corner\, problems are an unlimited natural resource generated inside our own classrooms. This insight-building webinar\, presented by author and inspirational speaker\, Ann Gadzikowski\, will explore how early childhood educators can take the problems\, mistakes\, and accidents that inevitably occur in every early childhood program\, and turn them into teachable moments. \nWe’ll also shine a light on what children learn along the way: the social skills\, emotional intelligence\, language and communication skills\, and STEM concepts that children learn as they participate in an authentic\, meaningful problem-solving process. This conversation will approach problem solving with an anti-bias lens\, taking into account children’s (and our own) family and community contexts as essential influences on how we view and solve problems together. \nJoin this free webinar to: \n\nRecognize the importance of mistakes\, conflicts\, accidents\, and problems as opportunities for learning in an early childhood classroom. Discuss scenarios demonstrating common problems that happen during the daily routines of an early childhood classroom\, such as snacks\, naps\, play\, and transitions.\nDevelop strategies for facilitating a problem-solving process with young children\, such as asking open-ended questions and offering prompts (“Tell me what you think about that.”)\nExplore how issues of diversity\, equity\, and inclusion influence how we\, as educators\, view\, define\, and facilitate problems with children.

SUMMARY:Gender\, Expectations\, and Social-Emotional Development in Early Childhood Programs
DESCRIPTION:Gender\, Expectations\, and Social-Emotional Development in Early Childhood Programs\nWhat does it mean to be a boy or a girl–or something else? How do we support children to love their gender\, and to talk about what can feel restricting or harmful about it? As early educators how do our own experience of and education about gender impact our ability to support gender diversity and healthy social-emotional development in our classrooms? \nIn this eye-opening webinar\, participants will learn about the importance of creating gender inclusive early learning environments and the concrete actions they can take to create environments that support all children’s healthy gender development. The presenters will guide you to reflect on you own gender identity\, expression\, and embodiment and how your perception of gender impacts your expectations of children. You will learn about the impact of strict gender roles and stereotypes on young children and adults. The constellation theory of gender development will be introduced as a more inclusive understanding of gender that is big enough for us all. \nPresented by some of the authors of Supporting Gender Diversity in Early Childhood Classrooms: A Practical Guide\, this webinar will share concrete action steps early childhood professionals can take to create early learning environments that support children of all genders to help them build a foundation of positive self-esteem and prosocial development. The presenters will share authentic stories that will bring to life how early learning teachers committed to gender justice are supporting children’s healthy gender development through play\, gender inclusive classroom materials including children’s literature\, and through their communication with parents and families. You will leave with a greater awareness of how to respond to gender-based segregation\, exclusion\, teasing and stereotyping\, as well as how to create inclusive\, reflective\, and responsive school/program communities where all children are supported in their authentic gender selves. \nAfter participating in this webinar\, you will be able to: \n\nDefine the gender binary and identify its limitations.\nRecognize how gender diversity impacts social-emotional development during the early childhood years.\nIdentify at least three strategies you can use to create gender-inclusive early learning settings for children and families.\n\nAll sessions are 1.5 hours long and include a brief announcement from our sponsor. \n\nREGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:Situational Awareness\, PM Session
DESCRIPTION:Situational Awareness is being aware of the things you can see\, hear\, feel\, smell and taste (using your senses)\, and determining if there is a threat.  It is the process of looking for warning signs\, being aware of your environment\, and discerning if something is a threat or not a threat.  It’s the ability to process and use your senses to identify a threat and to respond to it in real time.  We will apply this concept to working in various Head Start environments. \nPlease attend with your region.  Staff not associated with region are welcome to attend via Microsoft Teams. \nAM Session\, 8:30-11:30am\, Whiteaker Gym\, Regions 3\, 4\, 5\, 8 & 9.\nPM Session\, 12:30-3:30pm\, Whiteaker Gym\, Regions 1\, 2\, 6\, 7 + Central Reception \nThis topic will give examples of potential threats to our environment and how to respond appropriately.  We ask that you take care of yourself and your needs\, as it has potential to be a heavy topic. Please know that all staff have access to Cascade Health Employee Assistance Program and we are also identifying if a mental health consultant might be available on site to debrief with individuals. Please also note that this is not a forum to discuss the politics surrounding gun laws and violence\, nor will there be time on the agenda for it to be included. \n\n\n\n________________________________________________________________________________\n\nMicrosoft Teams meeting\n\nJoin on your computer\, mobile app or room device\nClick here to join the meeting\n\nMeeting ID: 230 271 181 375\nPasscode: XtqXgE \nDownload Teams | Join on the web\n\n\nLearn More | Meeting options\n\n\n\n\n________________________________________________________________________________
