SUMMARY:Situational Awareness\, PM Session
DESCRIPTION:Situational Awareness is being aware of the things you can see\, hear\, feel\, smell and taste (using your senses)\, and determining if there is a threat.  It is the process of looking for warning signs\, being aware of your environment\, and discerning if something is a threat or not a threat.  It’s the ability to process and use your senses to identify a threat and to respond to it in real time.  We will apply this concept to working in various Head Start environments. \nPlease attend with your region.  Staff not associated with region are welcome to attend via Microsoft Teams. \nAM Session\, 8:30-11:30am\, Whiteaker Gym\, Regions 3\, 4\, 5\, 8 & 9.\nPM Session\, 12:30-3:30pm\, Whiteaker Gym\, Regions 1\, 2\, 6\, 7 + Central Reception \nThis topic will give examples of potential threats to our environment and how to respond appropriately.  We ask that you take care of yourself and your needs\, as it has potential to be a heavy topic. Please know that all staff have access to Cascade Health Employee Assistance Program and we are also identifying if a mental health consultant might be available on site to debrief with individuals. SUMMARY:Creating Clear and Effective Policies and Procedures for Early Childhood Programs
DESCRIPTION:Creating Clear and Effective Policies and Procedures for Early Childhood Programs\nThe past few years have taught us that we need to learn how to pivot when faced with challenges. No profession knows this better than early childhood. Early childhood professionals have pivoted to change how they do business including marketing\, recruiting\, and in some cases teaching. Due to the frequent changes that our profession has faced\, it is important to not forget about policies and procedures. Now more than ever it is important to write policies and procedures that are relevant and current. \nIn this practical webinar\, Dr. Jolene Andriaschko\, CEO of Strategic Education Consulting Solutions\, LLC\, will discuss how to write basic policies and procedures and will spotlight policies and procedures related to tuition\, cultural competence\, and health. She will share examples of policies and procedures and explain how best inform families and staff of changes to policies and procedures. \nIn this session\, you will: \n\nLearn how to write effective policies and procedures.\nLeave the session with understanding of fundamental topics that all early childhood program and policies should address for staff and families.\nPrepare to create policies and procedures that best fit your center.\nLeave knowing how to create stronger polices for tuition\, cultural competence\, and health.\n\nAll sessions are 1.5 hours long and include a brief announcement from our sponsor. \n\nREGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:The Possibilities of Professional Friendships as Communities of Support for Early Childhood Educators
DESCRIPTION:The Possibilities of Professional Friendships as Communities of Support for Early Childhood Educators\nEarly childhood educators’ professional growth journeys are sometimes isolating. Because working with young children is as much of an art as it is a science\, teachers often find themselves working through trial and error with less-than-optimal amounts of opportunities for professional interaction. This paradigm-shifting webinar\, by master pedagogist Diane Kashin\, EdD\, RECE\, will provide the background and provocation to help you think through how to reimagine Communities of Practice so professional growth opportunities become inclusive and responsive Communities of Support. \nDr. Kashin will introduce the concept\, practice\, and protocols of Communities of Practice (CoP). The benefits will be discussed\, and examples of potential CoPs shared. Then in contrast\, the you will be introduced to a new form of professional learning for early childhood educators\, Circles of Support (CoS) which is based on the theories of critical friendship. You will explore the research on critical friendships also referred to as professional friendships. Examining the concept will support early childhood educators to think deeply about practice. Every educator deserves a critical friend\, a trusted person who “will ask provocative questions and offer helpful critiques” (Costa & Kallick\, 1993). What would be the impact of supportive professional friendship on practice? Participants should come ready to consider the possibilities and think about supporting and growing peer friendships. \nJoin Dr. Kashin to: \n\nLearn about the theory and practice of communities of practice and critical friendship.\nLearn about the possibilities of critical friendships.\nLearn about the possibilities of communities of practice that support voice and empowerment.\n\nAll sessions are 1.5 hours long and include a brief announcement from our sponsor. \n\nREGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:Building Bridges Between Families and Programs
DESCRIPTION:Building Bridges Between Families and Programs\nAs early childhood educators and caregivers\, you are the first point of contact for parents for all things related to their children. From “good morning” to circle time\, snack time to nap time\, potty training to lunch\, curriculum to playground time – you are the captain of their child’s ship during school hours\, and the one helping to steer their child’s journey\, not only their learning journey\, but their social and emotional journey as well. This is a journey that comes with significant needs\, requiring the necessary navigation of myriad expectations. Parents need you\, but you also need them. Only together can you build the essential bridge that must exist between home and school to guide children on the best path forward. \nIn this important and timely webinar\, Dr. Donna Housman will help us to: \n\nLearn how to form trusting and positive partnerships with families right from the start to build strong partnerships..\nDiscover how children develop emotional awareness and understanding through responsive relationships\nExplore the importance of a common understanding and approach from children’s key socializers\nExplore the best strategies for key consistent communication\, common language\, and active listening\nBegin to make a common plan\, involve parents in each day\, and set boundaries\nUnderstand how to provide reassurance with empathy and meet parents where they’re at.\n\nDr. Housman will be joined by early childhood educator Emily Stone for an important conversation on the role the essential home-school bridge plays in the classroom and at home. \nAll sessions are 1.5 hours long and include a brief announcement from our sponsor. \n\nREGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:The 12 Habits of Resilient Educators
DESCRIPTION:The 12 Habits of Resilient Educators\nRegister Here \nUnless you’ve worked in a school system or had your own classroom\, it’s hard to describe what any one day can look or feel like. Each day is a million little decisions along with frequent stimulus and response\, and educators can feel alone\, exhausted\, and ready to throw in the towel. \nWhat are some of the attitudes and behaviors of resilient educators who successfully manage the unique stressors of this profession? Are there certain habits or practices that we can use to cultivate resilience? Within each of the 7 Mindsets\, there are specific thought structures that we can focus on to develop and nurture resilience. Using research from 7 Mindsets as well as other contributors\, this edWebinar will help to strengthen the reserves of educators who may be struggling with bouncing back\, who may want to deepen their understanding of themselves and how they choose to respond to things\, and who understand the importance of thriving\, not just surviving\, as educators. \nThis edWebinar will be of interest to PreK-12 teachers\, school and district leaders\, librarians\, school counselors\, and education technology leaders. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.

SUMMARY:Celebrating Indigenous Family and Cultural Strengths & Promoting Health Equity
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating Indigenous Family and Cultural Strengths & Promoting Health Equity\nWednesday\, October 26\, 2022\, at 12 PM PT\nAmerican Indian and First Nations (hereafter Indigenous) communities are home to countless cultural\, community\, and family strengths. Yet\, in the face of colonization and resulting health inequities\, these strengths are often missed\, uncelebrated\, and/or misunderstood in health research. Innovation in the ways we engage with\, celebrate\, and assess Indigenous sources of strength is a critical step forward for equity-driven research. This presentation will share examples of Indigenous family strengths in the forms of benevolent childhood experiences\, positive cultural identity\, and other socio-cultural factors. Research from ongoing tribally-based participatory research studies reveal how these strengths are associated with positive health outcomes and thus represent important protective factors for promoting Indigenous wellbeing in holistic ways. \nMelissa Walls\, Ph.D.\,  is an Anishinaabe social scientist working in collaboration with Indigenous communities in the United States and Canada on health equity research and culturally relevant public health programming. Dr. Walls an Associate Professor of American Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Director of the Great Lakes Hub of the Johns Hopkins University Center for American Indian Health. \nDr. Walls serves as the principal investigator with a longstanding research team that includes Anishinaabe community members and academic researchers working together to understand and address the social\, historical\, and contemporary determinants of unequal health outcomes.
