“Research shows that one of the best investments we can make in a child’s life is high-quality early education,” Obama said. The House speaker, John Boehner, who sat stonily through most of Obama’s speech, applauded that line. Congress also unexpectedly increased financing this year for early education.

Help me create a picture through words and photos of what Head Start means to families and community. Here are a few shared with me…

“woman who drew my blood yesterday told me she had been a single Mom and all three of her children had been in Head Start. The program was a lifesaver for her and them. All three are now fully grown and in successful careers. She sends big thanks to us all.”

“The woman who did my taxes yesterday told me that her daughter and all 6 of her granddaughters attended HSOLC and her daughter is now on the Board of Directors. Pretty awesome!”

“When I took my son for a doctor’s appointment, the receptionist/intake worker had two children who attended Head Start and she was pregnant with her third. She could not say enough about Head Start’s impact on her life and her childrens’ success in elementary school.”
