Senator Merkley visited Whiteaker Head Start on Tuesday March 31 to speak about the federal budget and give his support to early childhood education. He was joined by two parents, Jessica Deeds (current / Policy Council rep) and Bonnie Middleton (past parent / current employee) who shared their Head Start story.

Each thanked their Head Start teacher for giving them the confidence, resources and tools to build upon. They each found their voice to advocate for their child and each developed and reached a family partnership goal while in Head Start- one wanted to be employed by Head Start (and now is), and the other to buy a home (as of today, she has the keys to her new home).

We thank you Bonnie and Jessica for being Head Start success stories. Breaking the cycle of poverty is the ultimate success and you both are well on your way to amazing futures!

Watch KEZI, hopefully they’ll give us a little bit of air time. KLCC also recorded the Senator’s remarks.
