Good Morning,
On 5/6 the Springfield Modular PM class took a walking field trip to Two Rivers – Dos Rios Elementary. This was very exciting as 12 of these students are transitioning to kindergarten and 4 of them are set to attend Two Rivers – Dos Rios Elementary.
Prior to beginning the walk teachers talked about how to be safe crossing the street. This included holding a walking partner’s hand, staying near an adult, crossing the street together, and watching for cars. We also wore our safety vest to make sure we were easily noticeable.
Once at the school we were greeted by Principal Noor and Assistant Principal Usrey. When we entered the doors, they engaged the students in hearing what they were excited to see and reminded them that class was in session and so we had to use walking feet, inside voices and listening ears.
We were able to tour a classroom for each grade k-5. Teachers even seen former students and current students seen older siblings and cousins. After the classrooms we explored the music room and got to sing a song about animals with some students. The Playground was an easy favorite area to explore followed by the library and gym. The cafeteria was huge, and kids were heard saying, ” Wow we can all sit at one table”.
As we left the school students were given bracelets, lanyards and a new book. Principal Noor and Assistant Principal Usrey invited us back next year. As we returned to our classroom, you could feel the excitement the children had about entering Kindergarten in the fall, and those who are returning were just excited to have such a fun day.
As we prepare to end the school year and say goodbye this field trip showed us how much our students have learned this year and how ready they are for what comes next.
Thank you to the Two Rivers – Dos Rios staff and students for making us feel so welcome and excited for kindergarten. Thank you to the teachers and staff that coordinated and came with us. Thank you to the parents who volunteered and finally thank you to our students who showed us why we do this job and how much knowledge they are learning!
Students without permission are covered. Uncovered students have publicity permissions.
