Good morning, Head Start Families,
Last Friday, April 11th, USA Today reported that White House’s fiscal year 2026 funding blueprint does not allocate any money toward Head Start and lists it among many programs to be eliminated. No final funding decisions have been made however we cannot wait until the budget comes up for a vote to bring this to the attention of every American. Elimination of Head Start would widen the health and education gap for America’s youngest children and families living below the federal poverty level, including children with disabilities. The closure of Head Start centers across the United States would be one of the most regressive actions in the administration’s efforts to erode the civil rights of the most at-risk Americans.
For those wondering if it’s your time to speak up, YES now is the time. This is not a time to surrender to uncertainty. Now is the time to keep rising up, keep raising our voices, and advocating for the crucial and imperative services Head Start has been providing for over 60 years.
