Are you a parent? Were you or are you a HS/EHS parent?

Yes, I have two children, a 17 year old junior in high school, and a 22 year old senior in college. I am not a Head Start parent, but I raised my children while working at Head Start.

Are you from Oregon?

Yes, I was born and lived most of my childhood in Eugene. I am a graduate of South Eugene High School. I have also lived in Louisiana and many of the western states.

What surprised you most about HS?

When I first started working at Head Start I was impressed with the meal time routines. I loved that we sing songs before the meal and allow children to make choices about the food they eat. I was also impressed with the many ways we can impact families. I have worked in the full day/full year program during most of my career at Head Start. Our partnerships with DHS have supported so many working families to be able to afford quality and stable childcare while supporting their families. This allows them to work towards goals of education, job advancement, and housing stability to name a few.  I have also been impressed with the teacher quality dollars and the number of staff who have earned college degrees with the support of Head Start.

What would you tell parents about HS/EHS you think they really need to know?

We are here to support the whole family. We ask a lot of questions because we want to get to know you and what your hopes and dreams are. We care about each child and family we serve and want to support each of you in an individual way so that your child and family can have a solid foundation for life!
