Eligibility
● Work for Head Start or another qualifying employer full time (at least 30 hrs/wk)
● Have a Direct loan*
* If you are unsure what type of loan you have, visit www.studentaid.ed.gov and login to view your personal information. If you do not have a Direct loan, you can consolidate into a Direct loan from this website.
After you apply for Public Service Loan Forgiveness, you will need to make 120 qualifying payments to your Direct loan. These payments can be income driven (which means if you make less money, you can qualify for lower monthly payments, possibly as low as $0/mo.) After 120 qualifying payments are made, the remaining balance of your student loan is eligible for forgiveness.
If you plan to seek Loan Forgiveness, it may be in your best interest to consolidate into a Direct loan as soon as possible. Only payments made towards a Direct loan will qualify towards the 120 payments.
