“The only way you can hurt the body is to never use it” claimed fitness guru Jack LaLanne, who died Sunday at 96. His exercise show was on from the 1950’s to the 1970″s. Along with his dog Happy, he would encourage the children to wake their Mother’s to join him for an exercise routine that could be done with just a chair and a towel.

At 60 years of age he swam from Alcatraz Island to Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco – handcuffed, shackled and towing a boat. Ten years later at age 70 – he did again in Long Beach harbor. When asked how he was able to keep going he said, “It’s a lifestyle, something you do for the rest of your life. How long will you keep breathing, keep eating? You just do it.”
