Alex, a Springfield High School Senior contacted me to see if he could do a job shadow as part of his Economics class. As it was I was going to Junction City to congratulation them on their November Attendance so Alex tagged along to witness a classroom in action.

As we talked on the ride I learned that Alex was at a cross roads – soon to graduate from High School and not sure what the future held, what he wanted to do, and what were other options to consider. He comes from a diverse family. His grandmother, a single woman, adopted all her children from Cambodia and the Philippines, his dad is a single dad raising 3 boys while some of his extended family have a disability. A very diverse family indeed.

Alex entered the classroom and I watched his smile grow bigger, and bigger until it was just a part of him – I don’t even think he knew how big he was smiling. He played and helped clean up and hand out jump ropes.

He was encouraged and excited at a possible future he had not considered – early childhood education. Thanks Junction City for being that Moment in Time for Alex.
