Dear Springfield Community,

After much reflection and soul-searching I have made the decision to retire on June 30 of this year. This is the hardest decision I have made in my career. I love this school district and have tremendous respect for the staff, students and community. Together we have done noble work.

My primary reason for retiring is to create balance between work and family. On November 18 we celebrated my Dad’s 90th birthday and with that celebration came the realization that he needs more support from me. Moreover, my two grandsons have taken their rightful places in my heart and I want to be more involved in their lives. In addition to my family, education is and will remain very important to me and that doesn’t end with retirement, so who knows what the future will bring?

The Springfield School Board is exemplary. They are passionate about our vision of Every Student a Graduate Prepared for a Bright and Success Future. They have led and supported all the programs and initiatives that we have put in place during the last ten years. With their leadership, I am confident our district will continue to grow and provide a quality education for our students.

I firmly believe that our schools belong to the community and I know that Springfield Public Schools will continue to serve our students tirelessly. The work will not stop because of my retirement and I can assure you that I will continue to work as hard as I always have until the end of my time at Springfield.

Thank you, Springfield, for ten wonderful years.

Sincerely,
Nancy Golden
