NHSA needs your help to encourage more Head Start staff, families, and alumni to apply for, and win, one of the twelve awards and scholarships we offer. Historically, nominations have come from only a third of Head Start state and regional associations. Two years ago we began efforts to expand the geographic diversity of applicants, and more regions and states began submitting applications. But we still have a ways to go.
Last year NHSA worked with a focus group of state and regional Head Start Association staff to refresh the awards program. We heard -loud and clear- what challenges keep programs from submitting nominations. High on the list was a more user friendly online submission system.
NHSA listened! We now have a new and improved online submission process. The new system allows nominators to exit the system and later return and complete their nomination. It also allows easy uploading of documents such as letters of reference. Information about how to access the new system will be announced in the next week or so. Even more upgrades to the online system and process will be announced in the 2015-2016 award year.
What else is new this year?
~The Ron Herndon Head Start Parent Scholarship This scholarship celebrates Head Start parents who, through their own effort to mobilize other parents and community members, have affected real change in their Head Start program. Scholarship winners receive an award of $2,500 and a commemorative certificate.
