Today, May 7 was the last Training Committee meeting for the 2014-2015 year. What did the committee accomplish?

~ Teacher Quality Dollar requests were reviewed and approved if the request fell within the tier guidelines. Next year the committee will re-evaluate these funding tier levels. Kudos to staff who used Teacher Quality Dollars to continue their higher education – you all used it up, well done! Did you know that 61 percent of all HS teachers meet the BA requirement and all EHS teachers have a BA or Master degree.

~ Approved and denied additional training requests.

~ Reviewed and questioned the training budget expenditures and associated line item. It is educational and monitoring of the budget. The Committee is also responsible for creating a “wish list” for training needs if any Training dollars are left at the end of the year. If we don’t use, we have to return the unused money. Training dollars can only be used for training purposes.

~ Established date/theme for the September All Staff. ALERT: Mark your calendar for Friday September 11, 2015 for All Staff. Time/Location to be determined. The date was selected with the awareness that public school’s first day are the same week and we wanted to acknowledge staff with young children also starting a new school year. Thank you Training Committee for considering these other dynamics when selecting the date for All Staff.

~ The Diversity-Equity Committee and Training Committee are working together to develop an agency diversity-equity training plan. Three discussions have occurred at the Training Committee level on the subject. The Training Committee agreed to focus diversity training on:
(1) Self-awareness and reflection
(2) Human connection
(3) Recognizing unfairness and having the language to describe the unfairness
(4) Empowerment and skill development

The diversity training plan will be worked on through the summer with a Training committee sub-group (staff who work during the summer).

Thank you Training committee members. Hope to see you next year.
