Good afternoon.
This has been another turbulent week in the United States. Black communities and their allies continue to protest unequal treatment, institutionalized racism, disparate access to opportunity.
I grew up in the North side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Our neighborhood had as many black children as white children. I was lucky to know individual people, not stereotypes of groups of people. I lived in a community that got along.  I also experienced the Civil Rights movement in the 1960’s. I am sometimes truly shocked that we as a nation still have so little compassion for people different than us.
How lucky we are in Head Start to have an opportunity to provide experiences and books and friends to young children who are developing their world view, their values. We are committed to helping children develop a positive racial and cultural identity. Head Start will never stop supporting all families as they strive to raise their children to be the best that they can be…no matter what color of their skin.
Wear your masks and remember to smile with your eyes!
Warmly, Annie
