Position Purpose

Apply professional expertise in coordination with the Health Safety Consultant  vaccine administration and coordination with Lane County Public Health. Monitoring, consult, train, and provide daily oversight of health services. Assist the Health Safety Consultant in creating and maintaining collaborations with community agencies and Health Providers. Collaborate with all members of the Health and Safety team to assure that Performance Standards and Health Safety policies and procedures are implemented consistently across the entire program.

Essential Job Responsibilities – Performance Indicators

Communication/Consultation

  1. In coordination with the Health Safety Consultant use a multidisciplinary team approach to provide health and nutrition services to children, families and staff
  2. Provide information, referral, and coordinating efforts to link staff and families to appropriate community resources.
  3. Provide guidance to managers and be active in the safety committee regarding the assessment and follow-up of safety concerns and hazards.
  4. Provide clarification and technical support to all staff in implementing all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  5. First level of response to all staff for inquiries about the Health and Safety department.

Training

In coordination with Health Safety Consultant, design and deliver training to staff, parents and volunteers in these specific areas: (additional topics may be designated by Health Safety Consultant

  1. CPR/First Aid certification
  2. OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Standards
  3. Occupational Health and Safety
  4. Child Safety
  5. Disaster Response

Community Health Development

  1. In coordination with the Health Safety Consultant, maintain relationships and collaboration with the medical and dental communities and other community health agencies and partners.
  2. Participate on community health related projects, work groups, and initiatives as assigned by Health Safety Consultant.
  3. Study trends in illnesses and injuries among the agency employee population and proposes and implement strategies and regulations to prevent them.
  4. The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for projects such as:
  5. Developing, implementing, and improving the health and safety plans, programs and procedures for the agency.
  6. Ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety legislation.
  7. Identifying OHS-related agency training needs

Program Support, Compliance and Review

  1. Participate in the coordination of the program’s annual self-assessment as directed by the Health Safety Consultant.
  2. In coordination with Health Safety Consultant, review and analyze data from Agency adopted software (Child Plus), including quarterly tracking of individual family and classrooms to ensure nutrition and health needs are being met.
  3. Ensure that Health Services inventory and materials are tracked and accounted for.
  4. COVID 19 immunizations and monitoring as directed by the Federal Government.

Misc. Job Responsibilities

  1. Attend meeting, staffing, training and professional development activities as directed.
  2. Perform other duties as requested.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum requirements through one of two paths: on-the-job training or postsecondary education, such as an associate’s degree or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and/or a related degree preferred.
  • At least two years of related experience, with emphasis on training and knowledge of community health/safety resources.
  • Current training/certification requirements to teach Infant/Child CPR and First Aid or an ability to complete the required training within one month of hire.
  • Advanced computer skills, (i.e., creating documents/forms, database/spreadsheet knowledge etc.), internet and e-mail.
  • Current enrollment in Child Care Division-Criminal History Registry.
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License, reliable transportation, DMV Check 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to utilize various agency resources including technology to appropriately answer questions and provide guidance to staff and parents.
  • Ability to train and provide presentations to large and small groups.
  • Ability to collaborate with and have working knowledge of local community resources related to health/safety services.
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively and appropriately with others.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and implement policies and procedures.
  • Sustained concentration and attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work load and deadlines.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem solving skills.
  • Regular sitting, working at computer keyboard and desk, standing to file misc. documents in filing cabinet.
  • Occasional bending, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional driving to provide program support.
